We all want a healthy smile, but sometimes life can get in the way. You might forget to brush, maybe you floss now and then, and hope that’s enough. But here’s the thing, it doesn’t take a lot to keep your teeth happy. It just takes a few small habits that will make a huge difference long-term.

Keep reading for our five easy tips for looking after your smile!

1. Brush Properly. Don’t Rush It!

Two minutes, twice a day. That’s it. Make sure you’re using a fluoride toothpaste and go gently along the gumline. Replace your toothbrush every three months, and if you like gadgets, an electric toothbrush can make the whole process much easier.

2. Clean Between Your Teeth

Your toothbrush can’t reach between your teeth. That’s why we remind our patients to floss daily or use interdental brushes. Once you start, you’ll notice the difference right away. Your gums will start to feel much healthier, and your breath will be fresher – it’s a win-win!

3. Watch Your Sugar Intake

Sweets, fizzy drinks, juice, even dried fruit can cause havoc to teeth. If you’re going to have them, try to do it alongside a meal and follow up with water. Constant snacking and sipping give bacteria far more opportunity to grow.

4. Don’t Ignore Bleeding Gums

Have you seen blood in the sink when you spit after brushing? This is often a sign of early gum issues. But don’t panic. It doesn’t mean your teeth are falling out. It does mean, however, that they need some TLC. We recommend booking a hygiene appointment at our Oakdale-based dental practice. A proper clean usually sorts the problem out before it turns into something worse.

5. Visit Your Oakdale Dentist Regularly

Even if you do all of the above, you still need regular check-ups. Dental issues are much easier to deal with when we catch them early. Luckily, here at The Dental Centre Oakdale, we offer affordable membership plans that include check-ups and hygiene appointments as well as a whole host of benefits without breaking the bank!
